To connect speaker wires inside a cabinet or enclosure to a panel-mount TRS jack with three terminals labeled 1, 2, and 3, note that this is a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) jack designed for receiving a male stereo plug.

For use in speaker cabinets or powered mixers:

  • Connect terminal 1 to the negative wire

  • Connect terminal 2 to the positive wire

  • Ignore terminal 3S518 Female TRS Connector

For use as a stereo jack (e.g., for headphone output):

  • Solder the shield (ground) wire to terminal 1

  • Solder the red (right) wire to terminal 2

  • Solder the white (left) wire to terminal 3

To achieve clean and effective soldering, first strip the cable jacket and twist the wire strands tightly.
Then, solder each wire individually. Do the same for the connector terminals.
If you’re using 63% tin solder, there’s no need to use flux, as this jack provides an excellent surface for soldering.
Finally, place the pre-tinned wire onto the terminal and gently join both surfaces using the tip of the soldering iron.
